Claude Code usage guide
How to check Claude Code usage and quota windows.
AI Limit gives you a local view of Claude Code usage from a menu bar, system tray, or terminal. It does not create a hosted account, change your plan, or bypass provider limits.
Use the desktop app for an at-a-glance view
- Install AI Limit for macOS or Windows.
- Sign in to Claude in a supported browser on the same computer.
- Open AI Limit from the macOS menu bar or Windows tray and refresh when you need a current reading.
AI Limit shows Claude Code quota windows where they are available, including the 5-hour and 7-day windows, so you can see remaining capacity before starting a longer task.
Use the CLI when you are already in a terminal
Run ai-limit for a seven-day summary, ai-limit --days 1 for today, or ai-limit --detail for per-model token detail.
Browser support differs by platform
On macOS, AI Limit can read an existing Claude browser session from Chrome or Firefox. On Windows, the desktop app uses Firefox. Keep the relevant browser signed in; a signed-in session is the local source AI Limit uses to request current quota data.
When the reading is unavailable
Open the Claude usage page in your signed-in browser and keep the tab open, then refresh AI Limit. Temporary browser challenges or an expired session can prevent any local monitoring tool from retrieving a current reading.
